SAEDNEWS: EU citizens will have to live with their current national leaders until the next round of elections, because those leaders cannot be removed before then, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
It is clear that dissatisfaction is rising over the fact that an increasing number of European Union leaders want to continue the war and use taxpayers’ money for it, the Kremlin spokesperson said, according to TASS. He added that this public discontent is continuing to grow.
Commenting on whether European citizens could remove their leaders before the next elections, he said he did not believe they had such a right. He was responding to a statement by Valentina Matviyenko, the speaker of Russia’s Federation Council, who had suggested that Europeans might “overthrow” their governments. The Kremlin spokesperson said Europeans would have to wait until elections and accept the leaders they had previously chosen.
He also said that upcoming elections would be very challenging for European leaders.
Earlier, the European Union failed to reach an agreement on confiscating frozen Russian assets to transfer them to Ukraine. Instead, it decided to provide a €90 billion loan to Kyiv from its own budgets. Commenting on this decision, Matviyenko said European citizens were beginning to realize how risky the situation had become and might therefore seek to remove their leaders.
