SAEDNEWS: Esmaeil Baghai, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, explained that Iran’s decision to enrich uranium to 20% and beyond is a response to the US withdrawal from the JCPOA and Europe’s failure to meet commitments, emphasizing that Iran will firmly defend its legitimate nuclear rights.

Baghai: Iran’s 20% Enrichment a Response to Europe’s Failure to Fulfill Commitments

According to Saed News, Esmaeil Baghai, in today’s (Tuesday) session, provided clarifications regarding his interview with a Guardian reporter.

He said: “The question was why Iran decided to enrich uranium to 20% and beyond, and how we can hope for progress in any potential future negotiations. I drew the interviewer’s attention to the history of the matter. I explained that in 2015, under the JCPOA, we accepted 3.67% enrichment, and after the US withdrew from the JCPOA and the three European countries failed to fulfill their commitments, we gradually resumed enrichment.”

He added: “The clear question was: if the other parties fulfill their commitments, will you comply? The answer is yes, but currently the situation is far from that, as the other parties have not fulfilled their commitments, and we have witnessed blatant attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities.”

The senior Iranian diplomat also stated: “We do not simplify the matter, and we know that the relationships governing the Security Council do not always follow the UN Charter and international law, but this does not prevent us from firmly asserting our legitimacy and rights.”
