SAEDNEWS: Iran supports the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement while emphasizing the importance of recognized borders, territorial integrity, and the absence of foreign troops in the region.
According to Saed News cinting Daneshjoo News Agency, The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the recent agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, stating: “The signing of the statement by Azerbaijan and Armenia was a sovereign decision by both countries. As in the past, we support the approval of a peace agreement between the two countries, which will lay the groundwork for lasting security and stability in the South Caucasus.”
He added: “While supporting the removal of blockages and the creation of communication routes between regional countries, we believe that such routes must be established while maintaining internationally recognized borders, respecting the territorial integrity of countries, and without any geopolitical changes.”
Baqaei referred to Iran’s concerns regarding the presence of foreign forces in the region, saying: “We do not consider the presence of foreign forces beneficial and have raised our concerns; we have been assured that no military forces will be stationed in the region in any form.”
He concluded by emphasizing that one of the important provisions of the peace agreement is the commitment to prevent the deployment of any third-party military forces along the shared borders of these two countries. “Therefore, we share this concern, are closely monitoring developments, and are maintaining close contact with both countries,” he stated.
