SAEDNEWS: Iran and Armenia reaffirmed their commitment to regional stability and mutual cooperation, while Tehran raised concerns over potential U.S. involvement in Armenia that could affect the peace process with Azerbaijan.
According to Saed News qouted from Tasnim News Agency, On Wednesday, August 13 (22 Mordad), the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia met with Seyed Kamal Kharrazi, Head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, to discuss the latest developments in the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process.
During the meeting, the Head of the Strategic Council referred to the recently initialed document and emphasized the need to respect sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the inviolability of Armenia and Azerbaijan’s borders, as well as the importance of establishing peace and stability in the Caucasus region. He expressed opposition to U.S. presence in Armenia through an investor company managing the communication route between the two countries, which could pave the way for greater U.S. intervention in the region. He added that Iran hopes the Armenian government will address the concerns of the Islamic Republic.
Vahan Ghustanyan, Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, expressed appreciation for Iran’s continuous support for Yerevan and emphasized taking Iran’s considerations and red lines into account in Armenia’s foreign relations. He expressed hope that the upcoming visit of Iran’s President to Armenia and the signing of new memoranda of understanding will further facilitate cooperation between the two countries.
