What Prayers Can Be Recited to Have a Righteous Child?

Prayers for Having a Righteous Child
God, in order to preserve humanity and guide them toward achieving human perfections and the purpose of creation, has placed the desire and interest in having a righteous and healthy child within their nature. This is because the salvation and righteousness of the human generation, along with the happiness and well-being of themselves and their children in both this world and the hereafter, are determined by it. Furthermore, it has positive effects and blessings for the parents as well. A righteous and healthy child is like a flower from the garden of paradise, contributing to the dignity and pride of the father and mother, strengthening the family, and providing support and solace for the parents during their lifetime. Additionally, it serves as a means to elevate their ranks in the afterlife and as a reason for the forgiveness of their sins and the sending of blessings and good fortunes upon them. Such a family receives the prayers of angels and divine messengers.

Quranic Prayers for Having a Righteous Child
There are many prayers related to the guidance and well-being of children, but Quranic supplications can be used in this regard. Here are a few examples:

1. «رَبَّنا هَبْ لَنا مِنْ أَزْواجِنا وَ ذُرِّیَّاتِنا قُرَّهَ أَعْیُنٍ وَ اجْعَلْنا لِلْمُتَّقینَ إِماما»؛ (سوره فرقان، آیه 74)

O my Lord, teach me to be grateful for the favor You have bestowed upon me and my parents, to do righteous deeds that please You, and to make my offspring righteous for me. I have repented to You and I am of the Muslims." (Surah Al-Ahqaf, 46:15)

The Prayer of Prophet Zechariah (PBUH) for a Righteous Child
Prophet Zechariah, who had a barren wife, prayed for a righteous child in his old age and recited this prayer:

«رَبِّ هَبْ لی‏ مِنْ لَدُنْکَ ذُرِّیَّهً طَیِّبَهً إِنَّکَ سَمیعُ الدُّعاءِ» (قسمتی از آیه 38 سوره آل عمران)

“My Lord, grant me from Yourself a pure offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.” (Part of Surah Aal-Imran, 3:38)
"O Lord, grant me a pure-hearted child by Your grace, for You are the one who answers prayers."

The Position and Importance of Children in Islam
Children are a great blessing and a source of good. They are a source of dignity and benefit in this world and the hereafter for the person who is a believer in the truth and raises their children in faith and virtue. Whether daughters or sons, children are among the greatest and most beneficial blessings that God bestows upon His righteous servants. Prophet Abraham (PBUH) praised God for being blessed with children, and indeed, the blessing of having children calls for praise, a praise that is manifested by the tongue, heart, and body. "Praise be to Allah, who granted me, in my old age, Ismail and Isaac. Indeed, my Lord is the Hearer of supplications." (Surah Ibrahim, 14:39)

Parents who have passed away still benefit from the prayers, worship, and good deeds of their children, provided the children are faithful. It is narrated from the Messenger of God (PBUH) that five people, despite having passed away, continue to have their deeds rewarded: one who plants a tree, digs a well for people's benefit, builds a mosque, writes a Quran, or leaves behind a righteous child. The Prophet (PBUH) also said: "A righteous child is like a fragrant flower from the flowers of paradise."
