SAEDNEWS: Mothers and fathers each play a unique role in raising a child, but a father's role in raising a son is much greater than you might imagine.

Things Kids Learn Only from Their Dads

According to SAEDNEWS, Children naturally imitate their parents and act as mirrors of their behavior, receiving subtle messages from them throughout life; therefore, from the moment your child is born, they are learning and you are teaching them. Contrary to popular belief, child-rearing is not solely the mother’s role—children also model their fathers. A good father truly serves as a positive and constructive role model for his child. In the following section, we will explain what things a child learns from his father.

Things a child learns from his father

Gratitude and Appreciation

Teaching a child to express gratitude and appreciation is an effective practice that helps them find positive and reliable aspects even in the toughest situations and feel happy about them. Interestingly, children learn gratitude and appreciation from their parents, especially the father; a father who thanks and appreciates his spouse for chores, cooking, and so on serves as a good role model for his child and teaches them gratitude from an early age.

Cleanliness and Hygiene

The most crucial point in teaching a child about cleanliness is that parents must practice good hygiene themselves. You need to be a role model for your child; otherwise, you cannot expect it from them. Children, especially boys, learn cleanliness and hygiene from their father, so when you wake up, before eating, or after returning home, wash your hands and ask your child to join you. Also, give your child the chance to watch you brush your teeth, comb your hair, and so on.

Helping with Household Chores

Due to traditional beliefs, many Iranian men think that housework is solely a woman’s responsibility, and they have no role in it. This mindset and lack of help in household tasks influence your child to follow the same behavior. A father who helps his spouse with house chores indirectly sends the message to his child that household duties are not only for women but everyone should participate.

Morals and Manners

All parents wish to have polite and well-mannered children, and for raising a respectful child, both mother and father must pay attention to their own behavior. When a father comes home from work tired but greets the family warmly and behaves respectfully, the child learns to act similarly.

Yelling and Shouting

Respecting one’s spouse is the foundation of a healthy family life; in a family where the husband respects his wife and conflicts are resolved calmly without yelling or fighting, children also learn to respect their parents. If your spouse has upset you, remain calm and speak to them respectfully away from the children. If the father loses his temper over the smallest issue and starts yelling, the children learn from this behavior and will no longer show respect to their mother.
