Resumption of Nuclear Talks Conditional On U.S. Refraining From Aggression Against Iran: Takht-e-Ravanchi

According to Saednews, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi says the Islamic Republic has made it clear that the United States must rule out any further aggressive actions if it is eager to resume nuclear talks.

In an interview with the BBC on Monday, Takht-e-Ravanchi acknowledged that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump had told Tehran through mediators that it wanted to return to negotiations, but Washington had “not made its position clear” on the issue of further aggression against Iran.

He said no date had been agreed upon for a possible return to talks as well as the framework of the negotiations, adding that “right now we are seeking an answer to this question: are we going to see a repetition of an act of aggression while we are engaging in dialogue?”

The U.S. carried out aerial strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites last weekend, directly involving in the unprovoked war of aggression that the Israeli regime launched against the Islamic Republic in the early hours of June 13.

The aggression began three days ahead of the sixth round of indirect nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran, which were set to take place in Muscat, Oman.

“We do not want war. We want to engage in dialogue and diplomacy, but we have to be prepared, we have to be cautious, not to be surprised again,” said Takht-e-Ravanchi.

He also rejected accusations that Iran was moving towards developing a nuclear bomb, stressing that Iran will continue enriching uranium for peaceful purposes.

He said the Islamic Republic had to rely on domestic know-how as it was “denied access to nuclear material for research program.”

Stressing that uranium enriched at 60 percent purity is for peaceful purposes, Takht-e-Ravanchi said “the level of enrichment can be discussed, the capacity can be discussed” but the threat that “you must completely abandon enrichment or else you will be bombed is no longer logical; this is the law of the jungle.”
