Muslims In New York Mark Imam Hossein's Martyrdom Anniversary

According to Saednews, Muslims have braved scorching heat in New York City, attending a ceremony to mark the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia imam, Imam Hossein (PBUH).

The ceremony was held on Sunday on what is known in the United States as “Hossein Day.” Muslims in that country mark the occasion on the first Sunday of the lunar month of Muharram, the same month when Imam Hossein and his 72 companions were martyred by the tyrant of their time, Yazid.

Muslims from different nations, including Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, and Bangladesh, among others, attended the Sunday ceremony in New York.

Imam Hossein and his companions were martyred on the tenth day of Muharram 14 centuries ago, during the battle of Karbala. That day is known as Ashura and marks the culmination of ten-day mourning for the imam as well as his family members who were killed by Yazid’s forces.

Muslims across the world regard Imam Hossein’s uprising against the tyrant of his time as a symbol of resistance against oppressors.
