According to the History Service of Saed News, citing Asr Iran, researchers conducted a facial reconstruction of a young child’s mummy to compare the painted colored image on the coffin with the child’s real face. This boy’s mummy was discovered in the 1880s in a tomb southwest of Cairo. The mummy is 78 centimeters long, dates back to between 50 and 100 years before Christ, and is currently kept at the Egyptian Museum in Munich.

After examining the mummy and reviewing X-rays taken in 1984, the team was able to create a digital and three-dimensional image of the boy’s body.

A CT scan revealed that the boy’s brain and some internal organs were removed during mummification (a common practice in ancient Egyptian mummification). The growth of bones and teeth indicated the boy’s age at death was between 3 and 8 years old, and “dense lung tissue remnants” seen in the CT scan suggested he most likely died from pneumonia.

Researchers then focused on reconstructing the boy’s face. The study noted that the image showed curly hair with two braided strands running from the top of his head toward his ears.

Thus, the face of this Egyptian boy mummy who died 2,000 years ago was revealed after digital reconstruction by scientists.
