SaedNews: Occasionally, studies about tea and coffee are published by scientific centers around the world, but the latest research released in this field has shocked the fans of these two beverages.
According to the Family Magazine service of Saed News, "Every year, about 12,800 new cases of head and neck cancer and around 4,100 deaths related to this disease occur in the UK," says the Cancer Research UK Foundation. Meanwhile, researcher Yuan-Chin Imai from the Huntsman Cancer Institute in the UK, regarding the latest research published by his group, said, "Other compounds besides caffeine contribute to the potential anticancer effects of coffee and tea."
Previously, a study published in the European Heart and Vascular Journal in 2022 found that drinking 2 to 3 cups of coffee a day significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases.Researchers also found that individuals who drink more than four cups of caffeinated coffee daily have a 17% lower risk of developing head and neck cancers compared to those who do not consume these beverages. Additionally, drinking one cup or less per day is associated with a 9% reduction in the risk of head and neck cancers.
According to statistics, there are 1 billion coffee drinkers worldwide, and an average of 2 billion cups of coffee and over 6.4 million tons of tea are consumed annually around the world. Another important point is that half of young people aged 18 to 24 and three-quarters of people over 25 regularly drink coffee.
Nutrition expert Tom Sanders, noting that coffee and tea are not a guarantee against cancer, explains that individuals who drink large amounts of coffee and tea "may be more likely to avoid other harmful behaviors, such as alcohol and tobacco consumption," which is why they are at a lower risk for these cancers. However, nutritionist Trevor Rich, emphasizing the impact of coffee and tea consumption in reducing cancer risk, states that "drinking coffee reduces the risk of depression, Parkinson's disease, type 2 diabetes, and liver diseases, including liver cancer." Additionally, moderate coffee consumption can contribute to brain health and increased longevity.
Nutrition expert Elina Hipponen warns that excessive coffee consumption can impact brain health, suggesting that a simple action we can take is to keep the body hydrated, meaning "drink some water alongside your cup of coffee," and to remember that if you are a regular coffee drinker, it is natural to benefit from its health advantages. People should also be cautious about excessive tea consumption, as it can slow the absorption of plant-based iron in the body.
