Momeni: About 2 Million Illegal Foreigners Still in Iran, Return Process Ongoing

SAEDNEWS: Iran’s Interior Minister announced that the deportation of illegal foreign nationals will continue until all have left the country, noting that nearly 1.2 million have returned since the start of this year, most of them voluntarily.

The Minister of Interior announced the continuation of the expulsion of illegal foreign nationals until their full departure from the country, stating that about 2 million illegal foreigners still remain in Iran and that their return will proceed according to precise planning.

Eskandar Momeni, in Semnan, referring to the process of returning illegal migrants, said: about 70 percent of those who have returned this year were self-reported, and the programs for the return of the rest are being carried out carefully.

He stated that since the beginning of the current year, nearly 1.2 million illegal foreign nationals have returned to their home countries.

The Minister of Interior, emphasizing that despite historical relations and extensive cultural ties with neighboring countries, Iran’s capacity for hosting is limited and must be respected, noted: about 2 million illegal foreigners still remain in the country, and their return will continue according to detailed planning.

Momeni explained that the return process of illegal migrants is being conducted in full coordination and within the framework of international regulations to ensure the safety and security of both citizens and returnees. He added that more than 70 percent of those who have returned so far did so voluntarily and without pressure from authorities.

The Minister of Interior stressed that the planned programs for the return of illegal foreigners are being implemented with clear priorities and timelines, and efforts to complete this process are ongoing. He reminded that respecting human rights and providing housing and services for the returnees have always been a priority so that their repatriation takes place with the least possible difficulty.

Momeni concluded by saying that all efforts are aimed at ensuring the return of illegal migrants is carried out with complete order and coordination, enabling the country to make the best use of its capacities.
