SAEDNEWS: A Woman Whose Illness Causes Her Body to Smell Like Raw, Rotten Fish Speaks About Her Difficult Life
A woman named Kelly Fido suffers from a condition known as “fish odor syndrome,” according to Saed News, citing Simorgh.
Kelly explains that the disorder causes the body’s natural odor-regulating systems to malfunction, leading to breath, sweat, and overall body odor resembling raw, rotten fish. This can provoke strong reactions from those around her. She also believes that only around 300 to 600 people worldwide may be affected by this rare condition.
Kelly met and married the love of her life 16 years ago. Her 45-year-old husband says that while he is sometimes bothered by the smell, he tries not to show it and continues to support and encourage her.
To manage the condition, Kelly showers about four times a day and frequently uses deodorant. Despite her efforts, she lives with constant anxiety about how others might react to her. Because of this, she works night shifts as a radiographer at Oldham Hospital to minimize social interaction and reduce stress.
Kelly says she has largely come to terms with her condition, but admits she cannot always ignore negative reactions from others. Instead, she tries to explain her medical situation to help people understand.
