How to Reduce the Size of an Audio File? + Visual Tutorial

According to Saednews, Sometimes we may have a large audio file that we want to share multiple times. In such cases, we need a lot of internet data. So, is there a way to reduce the size of a music file without losing quality?

The answer is yes. However, “without quality loss” does not mean there is absolutely no difference between a 10 MB file and a compressed 4 MB version. It means the change is not easily noticeable to the listener, even though some level of quality reduction may still occur.

There are many tools—both direct and indirect—that can perform this task. In this article, we introduce only two online tools from the Namnak tech section. These tools require no installation, are completely free, and do not require any payment. You can use them quickly and easily.

1. OnlineConverter Tool

The first tool on our list is OnlineConverter, which is one of the best options in this area and produces good output quality. To use it, follow these steps:

Go to the OnlineConverter website and click on Choose File.

  1. Select your desired music file and click Open.

  2. Choose the quality you want. Don’t worry—any selected quality will reduce the file size. You may not notice a significant difference in sound quality, only slight changes. After selecting the quality, click Compress to start the process.

  3. Wait while your file is uploaded for compression. For example, the original file might be 5.2 MB.

  4. A new page will open where you can download the compressed file by clicking the download option. In our example, the file size was reduced from 5.2 MB to 3.14 MB with no significant noticeable drop in quality.

2. FreeConvert Tool

The second online tool is FreeConvert, which is also very useful. To use it, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the FreeConvert website and click Choose MP3 Files, then select your desired audio file.

  2. After selecting the file, click Compress Now.

  3. Wait for the file to fully upload.

  4. A new page will appear containing your output file. You can download it from there. In our example, the file size was reduced from 5.20 MB to 3.25 MB, which is a reasonable reduction, and no significant quality loss was observed in the output file.
