Saed News: The company OpenAI has unveiled a new version of ChatGPT’s memory, which can extract user information from conversations and continuously update it over time.

ChatGPT Memory Capacity Will Be Doubled

According to SAEDNEWS, OpenAI has announced one of the biggest changes to ChatGPT’s memory system since the feature was introduced in 2024. With the launch of a new system called “Dreaming,” the company aims to solve the long-standing problem of outdated or forgotten user information.

According to Digital Trends, in previous versions of ChatGPT memory, user information was usually stored only when users explicitly asked the chatbot to remember something—a limitation that caused important details in conversations to be overlooked. OpenAI has now upgraded this feature to automatically extract and manage information about user preferences, interests, and other details from conversations.

In the “Dreaming” model, ChatGPT automatically analyzes chat history and extracts relevant data without requiring direct user instructions, organizing it into memory. According to the company, the new system also takes the passage of time into account and can recognize when certain information is no longer valid.

For example, if a user talked about a trip to Singapore a few weeks ago, ChatGPT will no longer assume they are still in that country. This makes the chatbot’s memory more dynamic and ensures responses are based on more up-to-date information.

OpenAI has also introduced a new memory management page where users can view everything ChatGPT has stored about them, correct inaccurate information, or manually add new details to memory.

The company says the new system performs better in applying user preferences in practice. For example, if a user previously stated they are vegetarian or prefer quiet restaurants, ChatGPT can remember this in later conversations and incorporate it into recommendations without requiring repetition.

The new feature is being rolled out starting today for Plus and Pro users in the United States. OpenAI says it will expand to more countries in the coming weeks, and free and Go users will also gain access.

According to the company, recent optimizations have reduced the computational cost of running the memory system by about five times, making it possible to offer the feature to free users as well. OpenAI also announced that memory capacity for Plus and Pro accounts has been doubled compared to before.

Memory has been one of the most requested features by ChatGPT users in recent years. Many users have complained about forgotten information, missing details, or outdated data being used in responses. OpenAI hopes the new system can significantly address these issues and provide a more personalized and natural AI experience.
