SAEDNEWS: Iran says US pressure, unilateral demands, and failure to honor commitments are blocking progress in negotiations, not Iran’s religious beliefs.
According to Saednews, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei has said that religious faith is compatible with rational thinking, while secularism does not necessarily guarantee wisdom. He stressed that meaningful diplomacy requires mutual respect, reciprocity, and consideration of both sides’ legitimate interests and security concerns.
In a post on X, Baqaei questioned why the US administration’s failure to honor diplomatic commitments and its reliance on force and pressure should be attributed to the religious beliefs of Iranians.
“Faith does not preclude rationality, just as secularism does not guarantee wisdom,” he wrote, arguing that the main obstacle to rational negotiations is Washington’s approach, which he described as one-sided demands rather than genuine diplomacy.
Baqaei added that the United States cannot expect a lasting agreement while demanding concessions without offering reciprocity or disregarding Iran’s legitimate interests.
He urged US officials to abandon ideologically driven assumptions about Iranians’ religious beliefs, recognize Iran’s strategic interests and legitimate security concerns, and address Washington’s own record of broken promises instead of blaming others.
