SAEDNEWS: Major General Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), has cited the historic defeat of Rome by Sasanian King Shapur I to challenge US officials’ attempt to portray the aggression against Iran as a civilizational war.

Rezaei Challenges US ‘Civilizational War’ Narrative, Citing Rome’s Historic Defeat

According to Saednews, Rezaei made the comments in response to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s speech in Athens, during which Rubio spoke about Western civilization and made critical remarks about Iran and its civilization.

“When they travel to Athens after being defeated and humiliated by Iran, and try to frame the situation as a clash of civilizations, they should revisit another significant moment in history: when the Roman emperor knelt before Shapur I of the Sasanian Empire,” Rezaei wrote in a post on X.

He added, “Anyone who brings history into the discussion must be prepared for it to repeat itself!”

Rezaei was referring to one of the most significant military episodes in ancient Iranian history, invoking the Sasanian Empire’s major victory over Rome to challenge the civilizational narrative presented by the US official.
