SAEDNEWS: Georgia has refused to join the latest round of European Union sanctions imposed on Iran.
According to Saednews, Georgia has declined to join the latest sanctions imposed by the European Union on Iran, stating that its foreign policy decisions are based solely on the country’s national interests, according to the Georgian news agency Interpressnews (IPN).
Tengiz Sharmanashvili, a member of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said Georgia would not support any international policy that conflicts with its own national priorities.
“Whether Georgia joins a resolution or takes a position on international political issues depends on one criterion: whether it serves Georgia’s interests at that particular moment,” Sharmanashvili said.
He added that if a decision goes against Georgia’s interests, “we do not care at all whose interests it serves afterwards,” according to IPN.
