SAEDNEWS: US President Tells CNN He Expects Iran to Respond Tonight to Washington’s So-Called Peace Proposal
According to the political service of Saednews, Fars News Agency reported that U.S. President Donald Trump announced early Saturday morning that his administration is likely to receive Iran’s response regarding Washington’s proposal to end hostilities later tonight.
Speaking to reporters while heading to board Marine One on the White House grounds, Trump responded to a CNN reporter’s question about receiving a reply from Iran, saying: “We will probably receive a letter tonight.”
When asked whether Tehran was deliberately slowing down the negotiation process, the U.S. president declined to give a clear answer and said: “I don’t know. We will find out soon.”
These remarks came hours after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington was expecting Iran’s response on Friday regarding a plan to end the war.
Donald Trump has adopted a dual approach toward Iran, on one hand making efforts to reach an agreement, and on the other using threatening rhetoric against the country.
Early Saturday, he told reporters that if a deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is not reached, the United States would pursue “a different path.”
He also added that in such a case, the U.S. would return to its “Freedom Project” in the Strait of Hormuz, which was halted just 36 hours after its launch.
Trump further stated that the new initiative would be called “Freedom Plus,” explaining that it would include the same actions under the Freedom Project “plus other things.”
The United States had launched the “Freedom Project” to protect ships from certain countries passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
However, several shipping companies stated that the operation caused confusion, and despite U.S. promises of protection, ships still lacked confidence in transiting the strait.
