Trump Abandons NATO: “They Are Not Reliable!” / Is NATO Falling Apart?

According to the multimedia service of Saed News, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, wrote on Saturday afternoon on the social media platform Truth Social: “The failing New York Times, which has lost its credibility and continuously publishes fake news attacks against your favorite president—me—has seen its circulation completely decline.”

According to ISNA, Trump went on to point out that the American newspaper had referred to NATO not as the “North Atlantic Treaty Organization,” but instead as the “North American Treaty Organization.” He described this as a “very interesting mistake,” arguing that European NATO countries do not contribute significantly to military expenses and claiming that the majority of the burden falls on the United States.

Trump also described NATO as a “very weak and unreliable” partner.

Continuing his criticism of The New York Times, he added: “Hiring and training standards at The New York Times have fallen dramatically. Bring back all the news that is worthy of publication and restore greatness to the United States of America.”

It is worth noting that serious and multiple disagreements between the United States and Europe—on issues including the Ukraine crisis and tensions related to Iran—have intensified in recent weeks. Trump’s calls for greater participation from NATO member states have reportedly yielded no results.

Meanwhile, some American newspapers that criticize Trump’s foreign policy have been the target of objections and insults from the U.S. president.
