SAEDNEWS: Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hasan condemned the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, calling for collective efforts to reduce tensions and restore peace and stability in the region. He emphasized respect for international law and the urgent need for diplomacy to prevent further escalation.
According to SAEDNEWS, In a telephone conversation on Tuesday, the Malaysian foreign minister and his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, discussed regional developments, focusing on the economic consequences of US-Israeli military aggression against Iran.
Araqchi detailed the crimes committed by the American and Israeli forces against the Iranian people, highlighting attacks on schools, hospitals, and residential areas. He stressed Iran’s determination to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, affirming that the country will do so with all available capabilities.
He also reiterated Iran’s commitment to maintaining friendly relations with all regional countries based on good neighborliness. However, Araqchi pointed out that the use of military bases and facilities in these countries by the United States and Israel for aggression against Iran leaves Tehran no choice but to take defensive measures under its inherent right to self-defense.
Araqchi underscored the legal, moral, and Islamic obligation of regional countries to prevent continued exploitation of their territories and facilities by the US and Israel for attacks against a neighboring Islamic nation.
Addressing the broader impact of US-Israeli aggression, Araqchi highlighted consequences for the region’s economy, security, and stability, including the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He said the insecurity in the strait is a direct result of these military actions. Iran has taken a series of measures in line with international law to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity in the waterway.
He added that the Strait of Hormuz is closed to vessels affiliated with the US and Israel, or any party involved in their attacks against Iran. Other ships may pass safely if they coordinate with Iranian authorities.
The Malaysian foreign minister, for his part, reaffirmed his country’s principled condemnation of the aggression against Iran and emphasized the importance of reducing tensions and restoring stability in the region. He expressed condolences and solidarity with Iran following the deaths of several Iranian citizens in the attacks, highlighting the need to preserve regional security.
The US and Israel launched a large-scale, unprovoked military campaign against Iran after the assassination of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with senior military commanders and civilians on February 28. The strikes included extensive aerial attacks on both military and civilian targets across Iran, causing significant casualties and infrastructure damage.
In response, the Iranian Armed Forces conducted retaliatory operations, targeting American and Israeli positions in occupied territories and regional bases using missiles and drones.
