SAEDNEWS:Iran’s senior religious authorities have issued rulings explaining their views on the Fitr Zakat (Zakat al-Fitr) of students who live in university dormitories. Read their responses below.
According to Saednews citing the rulings of the religious authorities, it depends on the student’s financial situation. If the student’s parents cover their living expenses and the student is considered financially dependent on the family, the responsibility for paying their Zakat al-Fitr falls on the parents.
However, if the student is financially independent and pays for their own living expenses, they must pay their own Zakat al-Fitr.
Note: Zakat al-Fitr is an obligatory charity that must be paid on Eid al-Fitr for oneself and for those who are financially dependent on them.
