According to Saednews, Mao Ning responded to a question about whether China had played a diplomatic role in efforts toward a possible agreement between the United States and Iran to halt the conflict in West Asia, and what Beijing expects from such an outcome, according to a post by Global Times on its X account on Monday.

She stated that China’s position on the Iran situation is clear, emphasizing that the conflict should never have occurred and should not be prolonged. She added that an early resolution serves the interests of both the United States and Iran, as well as regional countries and the wider international community.

Reaffirming China’s consistent support for dialogue and negotiation as the appropriate path forward, she rejected the use of force and highlighted ongoing efforts to end the conflict. She stressed that the door to diplomacy must remain open and not be closed again.

China, which is the largest importer of Iranian oil, has repeatedly criticized what it describes as unprovoked US–Israeli actions against Iran. It has also condemned the US blockade near Iranian ports and former President Donald Trump’s warnings to commercial shipping following a Pakistan-mediated ceasefire, calling them “dangerous and irresponsible.”
