According to SAEDNEWS, citing Fararu, the Nyepi or Day of Silence celebration was held in Bali, Indonesia. Nyepi is a Hindu Balinese festival that is celebrated every year as the New Year according to the Balinese calendar.

According to Fararu, for a 24-hour period, the people of Bali must devote themselves to self-reflection and avoid exposure to stimuli. This means that lights, fire, work, entertainment, travel, and for some even eating or speaking are prohibited. However, the day after Nyepi, when self-reflection ends, joyful celebrations begin. In particular, people gather to take part in the mud bath tradition known as “Mebuug-buugan.” It is believed that washing with mud removes negative traits from the mind and body and also cleanses sins a person has committed.
