Where is Sobatan?
Sobatan in Gilan is one of the untouched and scenic summer resorts of the province, located near Talesh County. This area is situated at an altitude of approximately 1900 to 2500 meters above sea level, which results in cool and pleasant weather during the warm seasons.
Sobatan is bordered on the east by the lush Lisar forests, on the north by the deep valleys of the Lisar River, on the south by the Ardabil highlands, and on the west by Lake Neur. Due to its unique nature, green meadows, wildflower fields, and wooden village houses, Sobatan is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in northern Iran and one of the must-see places in Gilan.

There are several routes to reach Sobatan, and depending on weather conditions and the type of vehicle, you can choose one. To travel to Sobatan, you first need to reach one of the nearby cities like Rasht or Ardabil.
Talesh to Sobatan Route (Most Popular Route)
To reach Sobatan via this route, first travel to the city of Talesh. From there, take the road towards the village of Lisar. From Lisar, you can continue the mountainous path to Sobatan using off-road vehicles or local motorcycles.
This route is not suitable for ordinary cars, so it is better to use local Nissan trucks or off-road vehicles.
Ardabil to Sobatan Route
If you plan to travel from Ardabil to Sobatan, there are two main routes to this beautiful highland. One of the most popular is hiking from Lake Neur to Sobatan, which offers an amazing experience of nature trekking and mountaineering.
For this route, first, travel from Ardabil to Lake Neur, located about 40 km from the city. This distance can be covered by private car or taxi. After reaching Lake Neur, a hiking trail of about 20 kilometers to Sobatan begins.
Note that this option is suitable for experienced nature travelers and it is recommended to undertake this journey in groups and with adequate equipment.
If you prefer an easier route, you can take the road from Ardabil – Khalkhal – Lisar – Sobatan. In this route, you first go from Ardabil to Khalkhal and then continue towards the village of Lisar.
From Lisar, to reach Sobatan, you will need an off-road vehicle or local Nissans because the mountainous and rough road cannot be passed by ordinary vehicles. This route is easier than hiking from Lake Neur but still requires equipped vehicles or coordination with local drivers.
On your trip to Sobatan, you can also pass from Ardabil to Astara and visit the Heyran Pass, one of the most beautiful mountain roads in Iran. Although this route is longer than the direct path to Sobatan, the breathtaking views and misty forests of Heyran will create an unforgettable experience.
Lake Neur to Sobatan Route (For Nature Travelers and Mountaineers)
If you are into nature trekking and mountaineering, you can go from Ardabil to Lake Neur. From Lake Neur, there is a hiking trail of about 20 kilometers to Sobatan. This is one of the most beautiful hiking routes in Iran.
Hashtpar (Talesh) to Sobatan by Off-road Vehicle
In this route, you can travel from Hashtpar (the center of Talesh county) to Sobatan, but this path is only passable by off-road vehicles and local Nissans. The mountainous road is winding and challenging but offers spectacular views.
If you have never traveled to this region before, and this is your first time, it is preferable to choose simpler and safer routes.
