SAEDNEWS: It could be hard to believe, but an Irish man has been living without money for 15 years.
According to Saed News’ social affairs service, citing Hamshahri Online, Mark Boyle lived for years without money and has now become a role model for many people around the world who want to break free from this beloved opiate.
In the UK, he is known as “The Moneyless Man.” Since 2008, he has embraced a lifestyle entirely without money. He also avoids technology and modern conveniences, living closer to nature. In 2007, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy that change must come from the individual, Boyle sold his expensive home and began his new way of life. Since then, he has obtained his necessities through barter. He has admitted that this lifestyle is far from easy, and disconnecting from everyday comforts can be particularly challenging.
For nearly a decade, Boyle has challenged Western notions of capitalism and consumerism. For more than three years, he lived off-grid in a caravan, grew his own food, and traveled on foot or by bicycle to connect with the land and its inhabitants—without spending a single cent. He wrote his first two books, The Moneyless Man and The Moneyless Manifesto, about this experiment. Since then, he has given talks, including a TED Talk, on gift economies and the importance of community. His goal is to share the joys of an anti-consumerist life with others.
