Reports indicate that Samsung has decided to scrap plans for a more affordable version of the Galaxy Z Fold.

According to Saeed News' Science and Technology service, citing Zoomit, Samsung recently unveiled the Fold Special Edition of its foldable phone. Essentially, this is the Galaxy Z Fold 6, but with a larger display, a thinner body, and a 200-megapixel main camera. The price of this model is slightly higher than the standard version, with a price tag of around $2,000.

There has been ongoing speculation about a cheaper version of Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series for some time. However, it seems the South Korean tech giant currently has no plans to release such a model. A new report from SamMobile confirms that Samsung has decided against producing a more affordable version of the Galaxy Z Fold.

One of Samsung's senior executives explains, "The special edition Fold is not considered a premium product. It was designed to offer users more options based on their preferences. At this time, we have no plans to release a separate, lower-priced model."

That said, it can't be said that Samsung never considered a more affordable version of the Galaxy Z Fold. Earlier this year, reports suggested that the company had delayed the release of a potential Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE model.

According to these reports, Samsung initially set up a production line for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE. However, the results were disappointing. The test devices showed little difference in thickness and weight compared to Chinese foldable phones and lacked support for the S Pen. Taking these factors, along with market uncertainties, into consideration, Samsung has decided to hold off on releasing such a model—at least for now.
