SAEDNEWS: Google is preparing to deploy artificial intelligence data centers in space, aiming to send its first test devices into orbit in early 2027.

Google Aims to Launch AI Data Centers into Orbit by 2027

Scientists and engineers plan to launch around 80 solar-powered satellites about 400 miles above Earth. Each will carry advanced processors to meet growing AI computing demands.

Falling space launch costs could make orbital data centers as economical as terrestrial ones by the mid-2030s, while easing pressure on land and water resources used for cooling. Solar panels in orbit are up to eight times more efficient than those on the ground, though a single rocket launch still emits hundreds of tons of CO₂.

Big tech is projected to invest $3 trillion in land-based data centers worldwide, raising concerns about carbon emissions. Elon Musk recently confirmed SpaceX and Starlink also plan space-based data centers.

The initiative aims to provide sustainable, cost-effective AI infrastructure beyond Earth while harnessing stronger solar energy and reducing environmental impact.
