Plomo the Mummy: An Exceptionally Well-Preserved Frozen Discovery

According to Saed News, the Plomo Mummy is the preserved body of an Incan child discovered near Santiago, Chile, in 1954 by Guillermo Chocón Carrasco, Jaime Reus Abarca, and Luis Gerardo Ríos Barroto. The Plomo Mummy is the first fully preserved frozen mummy resulting from a high-altitude human sacrifice performed by the Incas—a ritual known as capacocha.

Until 1982, the Plomo Mummy was on public display at the National Museum of Natural History in Santiago, Chile. To ensure its long-term preservation, however, a replica was later placed on display for visitors, while the original was safeguarded under controlled conditions.
