Saed News: The White House special envoy and the chief U.S. negotiator in the Oman talks claimed in an interview that the United States cannot allow Iran to possess uranium enrichment capabilities. He stated that a proposal based on this principle has been presented to the Iranian side in order to reach an agreement.
According to Saed News, Steve Witkoff, the White House special envoy who has played a key role in the indirect Tehran-Washington talks, the Ukraine negotiations, and indirect discussions with Hamas on a ceasefire and prisoner exchange, responded in an interview to a question about the general outline of the agreement that U.S. President Donald Trump seeks to reach with Iran. He said: "The president has made it clear that he wants to resolve this issue diplomatically and through dialogue."
According to ISNA, Witkoff told ABC News: "He (Trump) has shown all the signals in this regard. He has directly sent letters to Iran's Supreme Leader. I was dispatched to deliver this message, and I did so."
The White House envoy said: "On the other hand, we have a clear red line, and that is enrichment. We can’t even allow one percent of enrichment capability. We have presented a proposal to the Iranians which we believe addresses parts of this issue without being disrespectful to them. So, that’s important. We want to reach a solution in this area, and we believe we can."
He added: "But from our perspective, everything starts with an agreement that excludes enrichment. We can’t have that, because enrichment enables weaponization of the nuclear program. We will not allow a bomb to reach here."
