Betrayal from Friends Hurts More Than Enemies”: Supreme Leader on Nasrallah

The Supreme Leader, addressing Hassan Nasrallah during times of complaint and requests for a successor, said: “Your beard is black, ours is white, what should we say?”

Ayatollah Mahdi Hadavi Tehrani recounted a memory from the late Hassan Nasrallah during a tafsir (Quranic interpretation) session.

According to SaedNews political service, Ayatollah Mahdi Hadavi Tehrani, a senior teacher at the Qom Seminary, shared a story from Hassan Nasrallah during his ongoing tafsir sessions:

“I would like to say a few words about Hassan Nasrallah here; he was 64 years old at the time of his martyrdom, and when he was elected Secretary-General of Hezbollah, he was 32 years old. I thought this was very young for such an important position, but his 32 years of leadership showed that he was an extremely strong leader and a very likable person.

He himself used to recount that sometimes we faced tremendous pressures, enemies launched severe attacks, and hardships were abundant. He said he once went to the Supreme Leader and said, ‘Sir, I really cannot endure these hardships; please appoint someone else instead of me.’ The Supreme Leader replied, ‘Your beard is black, ours is white, what should we say?’ He also added that harassment is frequent, and sometimes the harm caused by friends is greater than that of enemies. Betrayal from a friend is very difficult....”
