Germany Joins France: Automatic Sanctions if Iran Fails to Cooperate with IAEA

According to Saed News, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated that Iran still has the opportunity to reconsider and avoid international sanctions.

He claimed: “We offered Iran to delay sanctions in exchange for goodwill and cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, but no response was given.” (Al Jazeera reported).

He continued: “After 30 days, sanctions against Iran will be reimposed, while at the same time the doors of diplomacy will remain open.”

The French foreign minister added that the snapback mechanism would reinstate both international and then European sanctions against Iran.

Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul made an interventionist statement, saying: “It is clear that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons, and therefore the snapback mechanism must automatically trigger sanctions.”

He also emphasized: “A diplomatic solution is possible, but we need a clear commitment from Iran to cooperate with us.”
