SAEDNEWS: Armenian Security Secretary met with Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Seyed Abdulrahim Mousavi, in Tehran to discuss regional security, Armenia-Azerbaijan peace, and deepening bilateral military cooperation. Both sides emphasized historical ties while expressing concern over US influence in the region.
According to Saed News via ISNA, Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, visited Tehran at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart and held talks with Major General Seyed Abdulrahim Mousavi, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces.
During the meeting, General Mousavi referred to the historical and cultural commonalities between the two countries and emphasized that the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement would bring peace and security to the region. He added that while Iran has always welcomed such initiatives, the presence of extra-regional powers, particularly the United States, remains a concern.
The Chief of Staff noted that historical realities confirm the friendship and goodwill between the two nations, while also highlighting the negative role of the US in the region. He stressed the need to establish mechanisms to reduce regional concerns.
Armen Grigoryan emphasized the growing relations and cooperation between Iran and Armenia, highlighting the importance of strengthening these ties and expanding security cooperation. He evaluated the agreements signed on August 8 within the framework of Armenia’s “Four-Way Peace Plan,” underlined Armenia’s sovereignty over the Syunik corridor, and stressed efforts to prevent any negative impact on relations with Iran.
The meeting also briefly reviewed bilateral military relations, with both sides emphasizing the need to further develop defense and security cooperation.
