According to Saed News, Dr. Yaser Ershadmanesh, an international affairs expert, in an exclusive interview with a Saed News reporter about the decisive meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska, said: “I think that in the meeting between Mr. Putin and Mr. Trump, for several reasons, the upper hand was with the Russians. The first reason is that in the military field in eastern and southern Ukraine, Russia holds the geopolitical advantage, and despite the sanctions and warnings imposed by the Americans and Europeans, Russia was able to preserve this significant and remarkable achievement. Just last night, the Russian army succeeded in capturing the seventh city. The second reason is that the Russians managed to break the unity between the U.S. and Europe. This means that the approach of the European Union and the United States regarding the Ukraine war has diverged, and a rift has occurred between the two. The evidence of this is the absence of Europeans at the Alaska meeting. Also, we see that Zelensky has been sidelined from the next elections. Trump has long been indifferent toward Zelensky and says that whatever result his dialogue with Putin produces, Zelensky must comply with it.”

The international relations analyst continued: “Mr. Trump, for several reasons, must present this meeting positively to the international community. First, he is very eager to obtain the Nobel Peace Prize, and by receiving this award, he can cover up the crimes that Israel has committed under the umbrella of U.S. support in Gaza. The Trump administration has repeatedly vetoed resolutions against Israel in international organizations. Likewise, the U.S. president intends to silence his opponents within the United States through this act.”

Dr. Ershadmanesh emphasized: “We must pay attention to the fact that the representatives of both the U.S. and Russia met in a military-style manner. Mr. Lavrov appeared in this session wearing a T-shirt with a former Soviet symbol. American bombers flew over the heads of the two presidents, and simultaneously, Russia launched 100 drones at Ukraine. For this reason, I do not think that in the short term, these two countries can achieve any significant gains on the Ukraine front. Of course, there are also serious disagreements between the two in other areas, and therefore, we must wait until the Moscow meeting and observe carefully the outcomes of these meetings.”

The international affairs expert added: “Although Trump did not achieve any progress regarding peace in Ukraine in the first stage, this meeting had two benefits. First, he announced to the global media that the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election is a lie and described it as a shared injustice against himself and Mr. Putin. Second, Putin, by confirming Mr. Trump’s remarks, said that if Trump had been the U.S. president in 2022, the attack on Ukraine would never have happened. This alignment provided good material for Trump’s publicity, allowing him to have at least a minimal symbolic achievement in front of his domestic critics. Even this meeting could take place at a very low level, continue no further, and serve only a symbolic purpose, similar to Mr. Trump’s meeting with the North Korean leader.”
