SAEDNEWS: European powers are weighing the risks of activating the snapback mechanism, which could undermine their role in Iran’s nuclear negotiations. Meanwhile, Iranian signals of flexibility suggest a potential opening for last-minute initiatives involving the U.S. and Europe.

Analyst: Europe Risks Losing Role in Iran Talks With Trigger of Snapback

According to Saed News, Morteza Maki, an expert on European affairs, spoke with Etemad newspaper.

He said Europeans know that activating the snapback mechanism, as Mr. Araghchi also pointed out, would effectively eliminate their role in the process of Iran’s nuclear negotiations.

The recent letter by the European troika to the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council shows that Europeans have largely accepted the risks of triggering the mechanism and do not want to miss this opportunity to exert political pressure on Iran.

The proposal of a six-month extension has created an opportunity so that, in the two weeks remaining before the snapback deadline, there is a chance for a last-minute initiative between Iran, the United States, and Europe.

The preconditions that Mr. Araghchi had set for negotiations with the U.S. have been dropped. Mr. Takht-Ravanchi has announced that some issues, including the matter of compensation, will not be considered as preconditions but rather as topics of discussion on the agenda of the negotiations.

Previously, Mr. Araghchi had said that the U.S. must provide guarantees that no military attack against Iran would take place during the negotiations; however, now nothing is being said about this precondition. It seems that such positions indicate Iran’s flexibility on the path toward direct negotiations with the United States.

The silencing of artillery fire does not mean an end to wartime conditions, as psychological and cognitive warfare continues from Israel and the U.S. The recent provocative remarks by Netanyahu, while appearing ordinary in wording, show that they are still seeking to maintain pressure against Iran through psychological means.
