SAEDNEWS: For the First Time, a Hospital Midwife Performed an Unexpected Act in the Delivery Room That Shocked the World

Introducing the Pregnant Doctor Who Delivered Her Own Baby

As most know, cesarean deliveries are typically performed under anesthesia or spinal blocks, and many mothers are asleep during the birth, unable to witness the moment their child enters the world. But for one remarkable mother—an obstetrician herself—the experience was profoundly different: she delivered her own baby with her own hands.

Emily Dial, an obstetrician and gynecologist, decided early in her pregnancy that her birth would be unique. She planned for her friend, fellow doctor Sara Hill, to perform the cesarean while a photographer documented the moment. Emily wanted to be fully conscious and actively involved in bringing her child into the world.

Before the procedure, Emily carefully coordinated with her medical team. Every staff member—from doctors to nurses—was aware that she intended to deliver her baby herself. She also chose to keep the baby’s gender a secret until birth, wanting to experience the surprise firsthand.

On the day of the surgery, Emily was fully prepared. Once the incision was made and the baby ready to be delivered, Emily guided her child out of the womb with her own hands. As soon as the baby emerged, she turned the newborn’s face toward her to look into their eyes for the very first time. The moment was deeply emotional, profoundly beautiful, and one Emily will always remember as a defining experience of her life.
