Mujtaba Demirchilu, the Iranian ambassador to Baku, has met with Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov to exchange views on the matters of mutual concern.

Demirchilu, who has recently begun his diplomatic mission to Azerbaijan, met with Azimov on Tuesday to discuss the latest status of bilateral relations, as well as regional and international developments.

During the meeting, the two officials, while recalling the historical and friendly relations between Tehran and Baku, emphasized the development and promotion of bilateral relations based on mutual interests.

Referring to Israel’s recent unprovoked war of aggression against Iran, Demirchilu stressed the need for vigilance to confront the destructive actions of the Israeli regime in sowing discord between the two friendly neighbors.

The Iranian envoy held a meeting with Aykhan Hajizada, the spokesperson of Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry.

The two officials discussed areas for developing cooperation between their countries, including in the media field.

Demirchilu’s meetings came days after George Dick, the Israeli regime’s ambassador to Baku, sparked a row with his outrageous remarks that “Iran was weakened following the Israeli war and that the world, including the Middle East and South Caucasus, had become safer.”

The Iranian Embassy responded harshly to the regime’s rhetoric, describing Israel as a “root cause of all problems in West Asia.”

The embassy referred to the aggressive actions of the Israeli regime against Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iran and other countries in the region, warning that “The lack of serious international action to contain this rogue entity [Israel] will lead to the spread of insecurity throughout the world.”
