SAEDNEWS: The Iranian ambassador to the United Nations stressed the need for the UN Security Council and the UN secretary general to condemn a recent fatal terrorist attack in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan and take a firm position against all forms of terrorism.
In a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and President of the UN Security Council Asim Iftikhar Ahmad on July 28, Saeed Iravani said the UN must condemn the recent terrorist attack in Iran as well as all forms and manifestations of terrorism, regardless of the identity, motives, or affiliations of the perpetrators.
What follows is the text of his letter:
Excellency,
I am writing to bring to your urgent attention yet another appalling act of terrorism committed by the armed terrorist group Jaish al-Adl in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
At approximately 8:45 am local time on Saturday, 26 July 2025, three armed terrorists affiliated with the group Jaish al-Adl launched a barbaric and coordinated assault on a courthouse in Zahedan, the provincial capital of Sistan-Balouchestan in southeastern Iran, deliberately targeting innocent civilians. As a result of this brutal attack, at least six innocent people, including a mother and her six-month-old baby, tragically lost their lives, and 24 others were injured, two of them critically. Iranian security forces responded swiftly and decisively, successfully neutralizing all three attackers. Jaish al-Adl has publicly and unequivocally claimed responsibility for this heinous crime.
This cowardly attack is the deadliest carried out by Jaish al-Adl in Iran since October 2024, when the group ambushed a police convoy and martyred 10 Iranian law enforcement officers. Jaish al-Adl has an extensive and well-documented history of targeting civilians, law enforcement, and public institutions. It continues to operate with links to, and backing from, Daesh-K and foreign sponsors, in blatant impunity. Alarmingly, this terrorist group receives material support, training, and financial assistance from external sources, including the Israeli regime, a regime with a long and well-documented record of terrorist and subversive activities against Iran.
The Islamic Republic of Iran urges the United Nations Security Council and the Secretary-General to condemn this terrorist atrocity in the strongest possible terms and take a firm, principled position against all forms and manifestations of terrorism, regardless of the identity, motives, or affiliations of the perpetrators.
The Islamic Republic of Iran reaffirms its unwavering commitment to defending its people and preserving national security against any terrorist act. The relevant authorities in the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue to fight terrorist groups and their sponsors with resolve, determination, and full force until such threats are fully eradicated and uprooted from our territory. Acts of terrorism and sabotage, particularly those orchestrated, financed, or supported by foreign actors, will never deter the Islamic Republic of Iran from fulfilling its sovereign responsibility to protect its people and uphold justice with unwavering resolve.
I should be grateful if you would have the present letter circulated as a document of the Security Council and General Assembly under agenda item 110, "Measures to eliminate international terrorism."
Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of our highest consideration.
