S.C.O. Stresses Guaranteeing Iran’s Legitimate Nnuclear Rights: Russian Foreign Minister

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (S.C.O.) member countries reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring Iran’s legitimate right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Speaking at a press conference in Tianjin, China, on Tuesday, Lavrov addressed the issue of Iran’s nuclear program, noting that S.C.O. member countries emphasized their dedication to guaranteeing Iran’s legitimate rights in this regard.

He also referred to his recent meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, adding that they discussed potential peaceful solutions for Iran’s nuclear program.

The Russian Foreign Minister added, “We discussed realistic approaches to achieving a solution through peaceful political and diplomatic means, while respecting the decisions made long ago by the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the renunciation of nuclear weapons.”

He said, “No one, including inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (I.A.E.A.), has presented any evidence contradicting Tehran’s declaration of pursuing a peaceful nuclear program.”

Lavrov emphasized, “The second key principle is that any resolution to Iran’s nuclear issue must not violate Tehran’s legitimate rights as a member of the I.A.E.A. and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (N.P.T.), including its ability to enrich uranium for energy-related purposes.”
