SAEDNEWS: Iranian authorities have formally indicted 23 individuals in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, accusing them of espionage and collaboration with Israel, in what Tehran calls a decisive move to safeguard national security.

Iran Indicts 23 Alleged Israeli Spies in Khuzestan for ‘Subversive Acts’

According to Saed News, Iran’s judiciary has announced the swift issuance of indictments against 23 individuals in Khuzestan Province, alleging their cooperation with Israeli intelligence and their involvement in a range of subversive activities. The accused are said to have engaged in sabotage, espionage, disinformation campaigns, and efforts to destabilize public order—all under the purported direction or influence of Israel, a state Tehran designates as hostile.

Amir Khalafian, Chief Prosecutor of Khuzestan, told Fars News Agency that the suspects were apprehended following “comprehensive surveillance, documentation, and collaboration with intelligence and law enforcement agencies.” He emphasized that the actions of the group posed a direct threat to national security, accusing them of “conducting psychological operations, disseminating false information, and aiding the enemy in information-gathering efforts.”

The group reportedly operated under various civilian covers, and their activities are claimed to have included incitement against the Islamic Republic and coordination with foreign media outlets to spread discontent.

Khalafian issued a stern warning to other potential collaborators, stating, “The judiciary will not tolerate any threat to the country’s security. The safety and stability of the Iranian people is our red line.” He vowed firm judicial action against what officials describe as a wider campaign of hybrid warfare waged by foreign adversaries with local proxies.

The case is part of a broader pattern of Iranian crackdowns amid escalating regional tensions, particularly following Israel’s recent military operations and Tehran’s accusations of covert Israeli interference within its borders
