SAEDNEWS: Russia has denounced the recent attacks by the United States and Israel on Iranian nuclear facilities as “the gravest threat” to the non-proliferation regime, and called for Israel to finally join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), echoing what it claims is a global consensus.
According to Saed News, Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, issued a stark warning this week over what he described as “dangerous and destabilizing” actions by Washington and Tel Aviv targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Speaking to reporters at the UN headquarters, Nebenzya stated that these attacks represented the most serious assault yet on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and on Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy.
“The entire world,” he claimed, “is demanding that Israel adhere to the NPT.” Israel, widely believed to possess an undeclared nuclear arsenal, remains one of the few countries outside the treaty, which seeks to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons while allowing civilian nuclear development under strict oversight.
Nebenzya revealed that Russia has submitted a revised draft resolution to the UN Security Council, taking recent escalations into account. The resolution reportedly calls for a sustainable ceasefire and aims to stabilize the regional security environment.
He also criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for what he called its “ambiguous rhetoric” and demanded clearer reporting and accountability regarding the strikes on Iranian facilities. “The agency must not obscure the facts,” Nebenzya said, “but must identify the perpetrators and ensure transparency.”
The remarks come amid mounting tensions between Iran and Western powers, with Russia positioning itself as a defender of multilateralism and legal norms. Whether Moscow’s resolution will gain traction in a divided Security Council remains to be seen.
