Iran Executes Alleged Mossad Spies in Urmia Over Terror Plot Involving Smuggled Assassination Gear

According to Saed News, Iran’s judiciary executed three individuals accused of espionage and terrorism on behalf of the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad. The men—Idris Ali, son of Saleh; Azad Shojaei, son of Abdulrahman; and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul, son of Ahmad—were hanged after the Supreme Court upheld their death sentences on charges of moharebeh (waging war against God) and corruption on Earth, stemming from alleged collaboration with a hostile foreign power.

The judiciary claims the trio had smuggled equipment into Iran for targeted assassinations under the guise of importing alcohol, eventually contributing to the killing of a high-profile figure. They were reportedly in direct contact with a key Mossad operative based in a neighboring country.

According to judicial documents cited by Fars News Agency, the suspects were apprehended by Iran’s intelligence services—known as the “Soldiers of the Hidden Imam”—after months of surveillance. The trial reportedly followed standard criminal procedure, including multiple court sessions and defense representation, with some of the accused represented by two lawyers each.

The Urmia Revolutionary Court issued the original verdicts based on what was described as “irrefutable evidence” of contact with Israeli intelligence and smuggling of terror-related gear. After appeals, the Supreme Court confirmed the rulings, leading to the executions being carried out early on Wednesday, June 26, 2025 (4 Tir 1404).

Photos released alongside the announcement show what authorities claim are confiscated smuggling items and alleged surveillance tools.

Iranian officials presented the executions as a message to foreign intelligence networks, particularly Israel’s, that any attempt to destabilize the Islamic Republic through espionage or terror would be met with "decisive and lawful retribution." The judiciary emphasized that the state would continue to act firmly in the face of perceived national security threats.

The Israeli government has not issued a public comment regarding the execution claims. However, this is the latest episode in a broader narrative of escalating shadow conflict between Iran and Israel, including cyberattacks, assassinations, and proxy confrontations across the Middle East.
