SAEDNEWS: Lavrov, criticizing the International Atomic Energy Agency’s handling of Iran, said that they want to know the location of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, but there is no guarantee that this information will not leak.
According to Saednews, from the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov added in the Q&A session of the 11th Primakov International Readings in Moscow:
The Europeans, with a completely imperialistic and neo-colonial stance, persuaded Grossi to include the vaguest and most negative phrases about Iran in his report; and that is exactly what he did.
He stated: The European troika (the UK, France, and Germany), in coordinated action with the United States, presented a resolution to the Board of Governors declaring that Iran does not fully implement what (the JCPOA) that was destroyed by the Americans required. It was after that that Israel began its attacks on Iran; here you see a chain of events; the Europeans are also complicit in the guilt of these attacks.
New request from Grossi to Iran
The Russian Foreign Minister said: Mr. Grossi, the Director General of the Atomic Energy Agency, who could have written a clearer report earlier, is now asking Iran to immediately give the International Atomic Energy Agency access to its nuclear facilities to be sure where Iran’s enriched uranium is, to see what is happening there: ‘We attacked there but found nothing, you have hidden it somewhere, please show us where it is.’ Well, that is the nature of the Director General of the IAEA.
Lavrov raised the question of whether there is any guarantee that information about the location of Iran’s enriched uranium will not leak again, and answered: No, I see no guarantees.
He emphasized: The West seriously influences the secretariats of international organizations and has partially ‘privatized’ them, because Western staff in the secretariats of international structures, including the United Nations, do not follow the obligation of neutrality and the prohibition of taking instructions from any government.
Trump’s withdrawal from the JCPOA and Europe’s ridiculous role
The Russian Foreign Minister, referring to the developments in the Iran nuclear negotiations, said: In 2019, Trump withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA); here, the role of the European troika was ridiculous; they, who participated along with the US, Russia, and China in the process of drafting the JCPOA, expressed regret over the US withdrawal and made no criticism of the United States.
He added: These countries (the UK, France, and Germany) later began demanding answers from Iran about why it does not allow inspectors additional inspections and visits. Iran responded that, like everyone else, it does everything stipulated in the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the IAEA Safeguards Agreement — “no less, no more.” Because everything was within the framework of the agreement on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for reciprocal steps by the West, mainly in the form of the gradual lifting of sanctions.
No evidence against Iran
In another part of his speech, the Russian Foreign Minister condemned Israel’s attack on Iran and emphasized: There is no reality that Iran has ever taken hostile actions against Israel.
Referring to the claims of Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, at the United Nations about Iran’s plan to build nuclear weapons about 20 years ago — when Lavrov was Russia’s permanent representative to the UN — he said: If there is suspicion of violation of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, there are procedures through which the IAEA must verify it, and it did so. The IAEA confirmed Iran’s nuclear program in a way that it has never confirmed any other country’s program; except for the latest report, which clearly misrepresented the situation, there was no evidence against Iran.
When Grossi ‘came to his senses’
Lavrov stated: After Israel’s attacks on Iran, the Director General of the IAEA immediately ‘came to his senses’ and started saying that they have no evidence that Iran is starting a military nuclear program in any way.
He continued: When in this situation the Israeli side and the United States say they are certain (about Iran’s military nuclear program claims), it is a big blow to the multilateral nuclear non-proliferation mechanism. It turns out that there are international legal procedures, and you are told that they don’t care about these procedures; they say they have their own rules, which include the fact that if there is no evidence and they are sure, they can do whatever they want.
The West opposes any independence of countries
The Russian Foreign Minister also said in response to another question: The West’s approaches are not limited to containing Russia, but it acts aggressively and arrogantly against any independence in the stance of countries.
He added: The risks of NATO going beyond its traditional area of responsibility cannot be ignored, trying to establish a foothold in the Middle East, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Arctic, while in the Asia-Pacific region, the West is seriously promoting Indo-Pacific strategies aimed explicitly at breaking down the open global security architecture that has been built around ASEAN’s philosophy and framework for decades.
Lavrov referenced the recent remarks of the U.S. Secretary of Defense at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore emphasizing the need to form a united front against China.
Attack on Iran is a blatant violation of the UN Charter
In another part of his speech, the Russian Foreign Minister noted: The escalation of tensions in the Middle East resulting from the coercive actions of Israel and the United States against Iran, including its peaceful nuclear facilities, is a blatant violation of the UN Charter, the IAEA Charter, and UN resolutions.
He recalled: According to these international regulations, peaceful nuclear facilities should not be the target of military attacks.
No evidence of Iran preparing to attack Israel
Lavrov, referring to the positions of Tel Aviv and its Western supporters, said: Reference to the right of self-defense cannot mislead anyone, because there is no fact, not even suspicion, that Iran has attacked or was preparing to attack Israel.
He stressed: International law does not encourage the preemptive use of force against a state that has not attacked another country.
The Russian Foreign Minister stated: Further destabilization of the Middle East, use of methods such as political assassinations to eliminate military commanders and scientists, is a serious threat to global security and economy, and especially to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
Hitler talked of agreement while preparing for war
In the continuation of the session, Lavrov was asked: Recently, we saw how the West declared its commitment to negotiating with Iran for a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue, and at the same time made a decision for an attack, including on Iran’s nuclear facilities. What is your assessment?
The Russian Foreign Minister said: This is not the first time in history that the West has proven its inability to reach an agreement. One of the most prominent examples is the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, when Hitler signed the agreement to better prepare for war against the Soviet Union.
He added: The Minsk agreements, guaranteed and signed by Germany, were also used to prepare for war against the Russian Federation.
