SAEDNEWS:A U.S. senator criticized Trump's attacks on Iran, saying he neither destroyed the Fordow facility nor eliminated Iran's enriched uranium, but instead endangered American troops by undermining diplomacy and pushing Tehran closer to Moscow.
SAEDNEWS: In an interview with CNN, parts of which were released today, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut questioned the U.S. government's military aggression against Iran alongside Israel. He stated that "the American people don’t want another war in the Middle East" and emphasized his intent to hold Trump accountable for his illegal attacks on Iran.
Murphy noted that damage assessments on Iran’s nuclear facilities following the U.S. strikes have not yet been completed. A classified Senate briefing is scheduled for tomorrow evening, where he hopes some questions will be answered.
However, he said current information suggests, "We failed to deal a critical blow to their nuclear program, and they may still possess up to half a ton of 60% enriched uranium — close to what's needed for a nuclear weapon."
The senator added, "We may have only damaged Fordow, not destroyed it. So, the issue is if their nuclear program essentially remains intact — and now that they know the only way to ensure regime survival is to accelerate weapons development — this makes things worse for the U.S., not better."
He concluded, "We still don’t have all the facts on the effectiveness of the strike, but it will certainly alter the Iranian regime’s calculations."
