Baghaei: The Attack on Al Udeid Base Should not Be Considered an Act Against Qatar

According to Saed news, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated on Tuesday, June 24, that Iran’s missile strikes on the U.S. Al Udeid base in Qatar were an act of legitimate self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, in response to the U.S. military aggression on June 22, 2025, which targeted Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He emphasized that this defensive action should in no way be interpreted as hostile toward the friendly and neighboring country of Qatar. The Islamic Republic of Iran remains committed to its longstanding and positive relations with Qatar.

In a post on X, the spokesman reiterated Iran’s commitment to the principle of good neighborliness with Qatar and other neighboring states.

Baghaei further stressed that Iran is determined not to let the aggressive actions and malicious policies of the U.S. and the Zionist regime provoke discord and division between Iran and its regional brothers.

On the night of Monday, June 23, Iran launched the missile strike on the Al Udeid U.S. base following a hostile U.S. attack on its nuclear facilities.

Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, also spoke by phone with Mohammed Al-Khulaifi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, stating that Iran, through cooperation and understanding with regional countries, will not allow the hostile actions of the U.S. and Israel to sow discord among nations in the region.
