UN Experts Condemn Israeli Attack on Iran as ‘Blatant Violation of International Law’

According to Saed News, Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, announced via X (formerly Twitter) that UN human rights experts and rapporteurs have issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s recent military strike on Iranian territory. He also shared excerpts from the official statement.

In the joint declaration, experts affiliated with the UN Human Rights Council unequivocally denounced the attack, describing it as a flagrant violation of international law.

“These strikes represent a blatant breach of fundamental principles of international law, constitute a clear act of aggression, and violate peremptory norms—those binding international legal rules from which no derogation is permitted,” the statement read.

The experts also raised concerns about the timing of the strikes, which coincided with renewed diplomatic efforts in Muscat to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal.

“The timing of these attacks—coinciding with ongoing diplomatic talks in Muscat aimed at restoring the JCPOA—raises serious concerns about deliberate efforts to sabotage peace initiatives. [...] This incident further fuels accusations against Israel of undermining regional and international peace and security.”

This rare and direct rebuke from UN-affiliated experts adds weight to growing international scrutiny over Israel’s recent military actions, particularly as tensions escalate across the region.
