Homa Received Approval From the European Union.

According to Saed News, quoting IRNA, the Vice President of Operations at Iran Air announced that the airline has received approval from the European Union and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for fuel management in its international flights.

Javad Sharifi, in his announcement on Monday, stated that Iran Air undergoes an annual audit under the "EU-ETS" by the European Union and "CORSIA" by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for all its international flights.

He explained that the purpose of this audit is to monitor the emission levels of greenhouse gases and enforce international regulations aimed at environmental protection, ensuring that emissions remain within acceptable limits.

The Vice President of Operations at Iran Air continued, stating that if the annual audits conducted by these international organizations determine that carbon emissions exceed acceptable levels, airlines may face penalties and subsequent restrictions on their flight operations.

He emphasized that, given the nature of Iran Air's international operations, the airline is required to comply with these regulations and is therefore evaluated annually by European Union auditors.

Regarding the audit process, Sharifi said that the initial steps included correspondence with the German company GMBH Verification EST to establish an auditing contract, holding joint expert meetings with representatives from fuel management and information systems units, and conducting operational data analysis, all of which were carried out by Iran Air’s Flight Safety and Operations Standards Department starting from early last year.

He added that through the dedicated efforts and continuous follow-up of the Flight Safety and Operations Standards team, the audit was successfully conducted, and the verification was issued with approval from the regulatory authority.

Sharifi further stated that after holding multiple meetings with auditors from the mentioned company and preparing documentation for selected flights requested by the auditors in the third week of February this year, Iran Air ultimately received certification from the relevant authorities confirming compliance with the mentioned standards for its international operations.

The Vice President of Operations highlighted that one of the most significant achievements of this audit was the conservation of over 40 tons of fuel in European Union flights last year. This data will be recorded in the database of the German regulatory authority and, once listed in the global stock exchange, will hold substantial financial value, marking a key achievement of this audit.

According to Sharifi, Iran Air has been the first airline in Iran to comply with ICAO’s environmental standards for CO₂ emissions for over 10 years, consistently demonstrating excellent performance in all audits.

He concluded by emphasizing that as a pioneer in the country’s aviation industry, Iran Air remains committed to sustainable development and will continue to uphold international environmental regulations.
