Iran oversight body debates compliance of drone law with national policies

SAEDNEWS: Iran’s High Supervisory Board reviewed Parliament’s amendments to the civilian drone bill, accepting revisions to several articles but leaving disputes over Article 14 unresolved. The session also assessed energy policy implementation, particularly oil and gas production for domestic and industrial consumption.

According to Saed News, the High Supervisory Board of the Expediency Council, chaired by Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani and attended by a majority of members, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, the Minister of Energy, the Deputy Minister of Defense, a representative of the Armed Forces General Staff, and the head of the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, convened a meeting.

In today’s session, the members of the High Supervisory Board examined Parliament’s amendments to the “Bill on the Regulation of Remotely Piloted Civilian Aircraft (Drones).” After the presentation of a report by the Legal and Judicial Commission of the Council’s Secretariat and explanations from the head of the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, the members, following discussions, accepted revisions to Articles 3, 13, and 17 in order to meet the requirements of the High Supervisory Board and resolve inconsistencies with general policies. However, they maintained that ambiguities and contradictions remained in Article 14 with certain overarching policies.

Subsequently, the members of the High Supervisory Board reviewed the “Report on the Evaluation of the Proper Implementation of Energy Policies.” In this section, the Energy Committee of the Council’s Infrastructure and Production Commission presented a report regarding oil and gas production, particularly aimed at supplying consumption in households, industries, and power plants.
