UN Security Council to Convene Meeting on Iran Nuclear Deal

The United Nations Security Council will meet on Tuesday to review the implementation of the Iran nuclear agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

According to Egypt’s Al-Ahram daily, the meeting will focus on the UN secretary-general’s report concerning the enforcement of the Security Council resolution related to the 2015 nuclear deal.

The session was requested by Denmark, France, Greece, South Korea, Slovenia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The meeting is part of a broader series of Security Council sessions scheduled from December 22 to December 26, addressing major international issues.

Alongside the Iran nuclear file, the Council’s agenda includes developments in Myanmar, the ongoing crisis in Sudan, and a range of regional and international security challenges.

The JCPOA, signed in 2015 between Iran and world powers, has faced persistent difficulties since the United States withdrew from the agreement in 2018.
