SAEDNEWS: IFEX 2025 Opens at Tehran’s Permanent International Fairgrounds
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri Qezeljeh outlined the Ministry of Agriculture’s strategy to boost the country’s marine-based economy. The plan aims to increase fisheries production from 1.4 million tons to 1.8 million tons under the Seventh National Development Plan.
“In the first year of implementing these policies, we have already seen significant progress, with production rising more than 30 percent in areas such as sturgeon, distant-water fisheries, and shrimp,” the minister said.
Highlighting the country’s extensive fisheries capacities, Nouri Qezeljeh emphasized that production could exceed current targets. He also reaffirmed government support for developing the sector, particularly the marine-based economy.
The minister noted the creation of a fisheries working group to oversee planning and infrastructure development, including ports and other essential facilities. “Completing the value chain—covering hatchery production, export, and processing of marine products—is a key priority,” he explained.
He described the government’s approach as focused on strengthening and sustainably developing the sea-based economy while maximizing marine resources. “In maritime diplomacy, we have specific plans involving negotiations, visits, and exchanges,” he added.
Nouri Qezeljeh also highlighted the establishment of joint maritime committees with capable countries, especially in Africa and neighboring regions, with the goal of enhancing maritime relations and cooperation.
The exhibition will continue until December 6.
