China Imposes Sanctions on U.S. Defense Companies Over Taiwan

China has frozen the assets of certain U.S. companies and individuals within its borders and barred domestic organizations and citizens from conducting business with them, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, according to Reuters.

The sanctions also prohibit entry into China for the individuals on the list, including the founder of defense firm Anduril Industries and nine senior executives from the targeted companies.

Other companies affected include Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation and L3Harris Maritime Services.

The measures come after Washington announced last week an $11.1 billion arms sale to Taiwan—the largest U.S. weapons package ever delivered to the island—drawing strong criticism from Beijing.

“The Taiwan issue is at the core of China’s core interests and represents the first red line that cannot be crossed in China-U.S. relations,” a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry said Friday.

The statement added: “Any provocative actions that cross the line on the Taiwan issue will be met with a strong response from China,” urging the U.S. to stop its “dangerous” efforts to arm Taiwan.
